Montgomery School seeks a dedicated, joyful, and visionary school leader to serve as its next Head of School.

Montgomery School is an independent, co-educational day school serving Preschool through 8th grade students and their families in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, in the heart of Chester County. Founded in 1915, Montgomery has spent more than a century perfecting the art of "preserving childhood," building a program where academic rigor, character development, and joyful learning are inseparable.

Montgomery's approach blends STEAM, outdoor and environmental education, and a strong emphasis on personal development, citizenship, and leadership across a 60-acre campus that includes a creek classroom, rain garden, fabrication lab, and walking trails through wetlands and meadow. Students collect water samples from Pickering Creek, build and tinker in a maker space equipped with laser cutters and 3D printers, take part in a specialized 5th and 6th grade transition program, and grow as "critical thinkers, active problem solvers, and confident leaders," all within small classes (an average of 12 to 15 students) and a tight-knit community of 315 students and 37 faculty members.

Tom McManus, Montgomery’s Head of School since 2020, has announced that he will conclude his tenure at the end of the 2026-2027 school year. Under his leadership, the school successfully navigated the challenges of the pandemic and experienced a period of growth marked by increased enrollment, expanded programming, and significant campus enhancements, including completion of the Innovation Center, refreshed amphitheater, and new baseball field. The Board of Trustees is conducting a thoughtful, community-informed search for the leader who will build on this strong foundation and guide Montgomery into its next chapter.

The next Head of School will inherit a school in a genuine position of strength: a clear mission, engaged families, an experienced faculty, and a Board and Search Committee eager to partner on continued growth.
